Week 4 post: Valentine’s Phrase and Pidgins and Creoles contribution

Dear all,

This is the space where you are expected to contribute on Week’s 4 assignment. Some of you may have attempted to upload your contribution this week, but there were visibility issues with our blog and this may have complicated things a little. That being said, I contacted WordPress and have fixed these issues. Your deadline of today, Sunday at 5.00PM has been pushed until Wednesday, 19th of February at 7.00PM.

Please excuse the inconveniences.

I look forward to receiving and reading your Valentine’s day phrases [in any dialect of English] as well as your pidgins and creoles contributions: (1) ONE pidgin English word & ONE creole-based English word, (2) WHAT do they mean, (3) WHERE are these pidgins and creoles spoken, (4) HOW many speakers are there, (5) and WHY did you chose that word / why do you think it’s interesting?

Let me know if you experience any difficulties uploading your contribution, and I will personally upload them for you.

Kind regards,

World Englishes Book Available at la Librería del Colegio for $10

Dear all,

I wanted to let you know that I passed by the Centro of Estudiantes bookstore this week and I found 21 copies of Jennifer Jenkins World Englishes book, originally 40 dollars now sold for $10.00. I don’t know until when they will have them, but I wanted to notified you all of this opportunity (not even Amazon sells them for this cheap!). Here is photographic evidence of its existence (the second sticker says ‘$10.00’

See you all on Wednesday!!

Hello world!

Hello everyone! Welcome to our World Englishes webpage.

Our WordPress site is just one of the many tools we’ll be using to get acquainted with class materials. Here you will find links to useful/interesting articles, class news, instructions on assignments, and other fun stuff related to World Englishes. On the menu above you will find a link to our course syllabus. It is your responsibility to keep updated and complete the weekly readings. You are expected to take an active role in class, particularly in group discussions.

Weekly Reflections

Each week I will upload a discussion topic here, where you will be expected to contribute your opinion and additional findings (or interesting information) related to that topic (300 – 500 words long). You may talk about: (1) what you found interesting in the material covered that week and why, (2) what you found challenging, (3) how it relates to your language learning experience, (4) whether it reminds you of other real life situations and which. Your blog contributions are to be uploaded to the ‘Blog Feed ‘ section of our site.

Happy blogging!
